The Sømmet ("the Nail") is a Scandinavian in-line lure (inline/through-wire lure) with a loyal following among dedicated sea trout anglers. Its slim, nail-like profile flies out on a long cast, then swims a convincing sand eel imitation action just where big sea trout are hunting.
Sand eels are the primary forage for large sea trout working shallow coastal flats, and the Sømmet matches that profile precisely. The Mad Tobis colour is a direct nod to the species — tobis is the Scandinavian word for sand eel — with a hand-painted, naturalistic finish that holds up through hard use. Where big fish are keyed in on bait, matching the hatch with a realistic pattern like this makes a real difference.
The through-wire in-line design keeps the hook in near-perfect alignment with the pull of the fish, reducing leverage and the risk of the lure acting as a lever arm during the fight. Run your line through the lure, thread on one of the included beads to protect the knot, then tie directly to a single or treble hook (size #5, #4, or #3 — your choice). For a free-swinging hook, attach the hook to the included oval split ring and tie your line to the double-stranded part of the ring. Three beads and an oval split ring are included.
The Sømmet is available in three weights and body lengths, each in a range of colours suited to different light and water conditions.
