The Penn Squall II Star Drag 30 combines the castability of a free-floating spool with the drag power and line capacity you need for surf fishing and light offshore work. Its Live Spindle design and Fast Gear Access sideplate make it quick to cast and easy to maintain.
The free-floating spool sits on a Live Spindle, eliminating friction during the cast and letting your bait or lure fly farther with less effort. This design reduces startup inertia, so you get more distance from every cast—essential when targeting fish beyond the breakers or working structure from the boat.
Despite weighing just 533 g, the size 30 delivers 11.3 kg of maximum drag through its Versa-Drag system with HT-100 carbon fiber washers. The graphite frame and sideplates keep weight down without sacrificing strength, while the high-strength marine-grade bronze alloy main gear and stainless steel pinion gear handle hard-fighting fish. Seven shielded stainless steel ball bearings ensure smooth, consistent performance in saltwater conditions.
The Squall II Star Drag range offers models for different line capacities and retrieve setups:
