The Penn Squall II Lever Drag 40 combines a lightweight graphite frame with stainless steel gears and the proven Dura-Drag™ system, delivering serious stopping power for dolphin, kingfish, and other nearshore predators.

Graphite construction for all-day comfort

The one-piece graphite frame and palm sideplate keep the weight down to 563 g without sacrificing strength. The forged and machined aluminum spool is built to handle hard runs, while the corrosion-resistant design stands up to saltwater use. Line capacity rings help you monitor how much line is out during the fight.

Reliable drag control and smooth retrieval

Stainless steel main and pinion gears paired with the Dura-Drag™ system provide consistent stopping power up to 9 kg. The Pull-to-Turn preset knob prevents accidental drag adjustments when you're focused on the fish. Five bearings (4 stainless steel ball bearings plus a double dog ratchet anti-reverse) ensure smooth operation, and the 5.3:1 gear ratio recovers 91 cm of line per turn.
