SS stands for Slow Sinking. The lure sinks slowly, which allows you to work it from shallow to medium depths depending on the tie point you choose.
The 16.5 cm (48 g) model runs at 0.5–1.5 m and is suited for shallower water or smaller pike. The 20 cm (87 g) version reaches 0.5–2 m, casts further, and presents a larger profile for bigger fish. Choose based on your target depth and the size of pike you expect.
The Cross Jaw Lock Tail system securely holds the interchangeable rubber tails in position while allowing a quick and tool-free swap between the paddle tail and the mini curl tail. You can also reverse the tail direction to change the lure's working depth and action.
The two tie points allow you to adjust the running depth without changing lures. One position lets you fish the Deviator Tail SS super shallow, while the other takes it to medium depth. This makes the lure very versatile for covering different water layers with a single rod.
In murky or stained water, high-contrast colours like Firetiger or Golden Ambulance tend to produce the strongest visual signal. In clearer water, more natural patterns such as Bream, Chrome Perch, or Clear Herring can be effective. Ultimately, local conditions and prey fish species should guide your choice.

The Savage Gear Deviator Tail SS (Slow Sinking) is a highly versatile hybrid lure built on the proven Deviator platform, designed for targeting pike in freshwater environments.
Each Deviator Tail SS comes with two scented interchangeable tails – a paddle tail for a superb kicking, frantic action and a mini curl tail for a crazy gliding movement. The unique Cross Jaw Lock Tail system holds the tails securely in place while allowing fast and easy swaps.
Two different tie points let you work the lure from super shallow to medium depth. The 16.5 cm model runs at 0.5–1.5 m, while the 20 cm model covers 0.5–2 m. You can also mount the tail up or down to change the working depth and movement pattern entirely.
An integrated long cast system turns the Deviator Tail SS into an effective search bait, enabling you to cover large areas of water quickly.
