Designed by Allan Christiansen, the Westin Platypus is a hard-bodied crankbait for targeting large pike. Its rolling action creates movement and sound, while an internal Ultra Sonic rattle ball adds an acoustic attraction. The family offers a smaller, low-floating version for shallower presentations and a larger sinking version for fishing deeper edges and open water.
The 16 cm, 56 g Low Floating version runs at 1–3 m. It pauses briefly in the water and then rises slowly when the retrieve stops, allowing a stop-and-go presentation. Its action works at very slow retrieve speeds in cold spring conditions as well as at higher speeds. The rolling body flashes its flanks, and its light-reflecting optic eyes use coloured, light-guiding glass fibres to create a reflective effect. The carbon steel hooks are size 4.
The 19 cm, 94 g Sinking version runs at 1–6 m. It is suited to spinning and trolling for pike, including medium-depth to deep edges and open water. Choose it for a larger, heavier presentation with greater running depth. It sinks rather than slowly rising at a pause, and has size 1/0 carbon steel hooks.
The lead-free ABS plastic body houses the rattle. A wire construction connects the attachment eyelet to the hooks, providing a continuous load path during a fight. The family uses sharp, strong Japanese-style carbon steel trebles. These features combine acoustic attraction with a secure connection between the line attachment and hooks.
