Choose by casting range: 2.46 m for 42–140 g, 2.56 m for 56–250 g, 2.65 m for 90–450 g or 2.68 m for 180–650 g. Rod weight rises from 260 to 360 g across these versions, so the higher-capacity models also add weight in the hand. Match your lure weights to the stated range rather than choosing only by the maximum rating.
These are casting rods for baitcasting reels, intended for freshwater pike fishing with large artificial lures. The supplier identifies the family as a BC casting model, so choose a baitcasting setup rather than treating it as a fixed-spool spinning rod.
The responsive Japanese Torayca carbon blanks combine 4X Wrap V2 carbon technology with Reset Accelerator Technology for very fast recovery. This helps the blank settle after loading while retaining feel for lure work and light takes, which matters when controlling heavy baits.
All four rods have two sections and include a Competition Ready-to-fish neoprene rod bag. Transport length is 127 cm for the 2.46 m rod, 132 cm for 2.56 m, 136 cm for 2.65 m and 137 cm for 2.68 m. Check that length against your vehicle or storage space before choosing.

The Savage Gear Alpha SG8 Monster casting rods are designed for freshwater pike fishing with big baits and baitcasting reels. Their lightweight, responsive and forgiving Japanese Torayca carbon blanks provide the backbone to cast and work heavy lures, set the hook and feel light takes. Choose the version around the weight of the lures you intend to fish.
The four two-piece versions differ in length, casting weight, power, rod weight and packed length. Moving up the range increases lure capacity, but also increases the weight you hold and the space needed for transport.
Length | Casting weight | Power | Rod weight | Transport length |
|---|---|---|---|---|
2.46 m | 42–140 g | Extra Heavy | 260 g | 127 cm |
2.56 m | 56–250 g | Extra Extra Heavy | 285 g | 132 cm |
2.65 m | 90–450 g | Extra Extra Extra Heavy | 319 g | 136 cm |
2.68 m | 180–650 g | Extra Extra Extra Extra Heavy | 360 g | 137 cm |
The 2.46 m version is the shortest and lightest choice for lures within 42–140 g. The 2.56 m version extends the upper limit to 250 g with a 25 g increase in rod weight. For heavier baits, the 2.65 m version covers 90–450 g. The 2.68 m version has the highest capacity at 180–650 g, but is also the heaviest rod. Its higher lower limit makes it a different choice from the lighter versions, not a substitute for their full lure ranges.
The 2.46 m, 2.56 m and 2.65 m versions have a fast action to support lure control and a firm hookset.
The blanks use 46T Toray + Nano400 T1100G carbon with 4X Wrap V2 carbon technology. Reset Accelerator Technology provides very fast blank recovery after loading, supporting controlled lure work. The combination of responsiveness and a forgiving blank helps maintain feel without relying on rod weight alone for power.
A fixed foregrip and Duragrip STC handle provide the holding surfaces for casting and working heavy lures. A Fuji reel seat secures the reel, while ten Fuji K SiC (silicon carbide) guides, including the tip guide, carry the line along the blank. All versions have a Black/Silver finish.
Every version separates into two sections and includes a Competition Ready-to-fish neoprene rod bag. Check the transport lengths above against your storage space, as the packed rods still measure 127–137 cm.
