Yes. The supplier specifies saltwater live baiting and freshwater free-spool techniques. The Live Liner function allows line to be taken before the fighting drag is engaged, while IPX5 sealing protects the body and spool against waves and spray during saltwater use.
Both have a 6.2:1 ratio, but the 2500LL weighs 399 g, retrieves 84 cm per turn and provides 6.8 kg maximum drag. The 4500LL weighs 449 g, retrieves 102 cm and provides 9 kg. At 0.28 mm, capacity rises from 160 m to 290 m, so the extra 50 g buys more line capacity, retrieve and drag.
No. Both retrieve 107 cm per turn, although their ratios are 4.7:1 and 5.6:1 respectively. The 8500LL instead offers greater capacity for thicker line and 18.1 kg maximum drag versus 13.6 kg, while weighing 915 g instead of 760 g. Choose it for those capacity and drag differences, not a higher retrieve.
The handle can be mounted on the right or left on every size. Each reel has an aluminium spool but arrives without line and without a spare spool, so select and load your preferred line before fishing.

The Penn Spinfisher VII Live Liner is a fixed-spool reel for saltwater bait fishing, including live baiting, and freshwater free-spool techniques. Its Live Liner function lets fish take line before you engage the fighting drag. IPX5 sealing on the body and spool protects the gearbox and drag system from waves and spray.
HT-100 carbon-fibre drag washers sit inside a fully sealed aluminium spool. The front drag provides the stopping power for fighting saltwater fish, with maximum drag varying by size. A full metal body and sideplate keep the CNC gear system aligned under heavy loads. CNC Gear Technology uses a brass main gear.
The 5+1 sealed stainless steel bearing system supports the mechanism, while Instant Anti-Reverse prevents backward rotation. The handle can be fitted on the right or left, so each size accommodates either retrieve hand.
All four sizes have the same Live Liner function and protective construction. The main choices are carrying weight, line capacity, retrieve and maximum drag.
Size | Weight | Gear ratio | Retrieve per turn | Maximum drag |
|---|---|---|---|---|
2500LL | 399 g | 6.2:1 | 84 cm | 6.8 kg |
4500LL | 449 g | 6.2:1 | 102 cm | 9 kg |
6500LL | 760 g | 5.6:1 | 107 cm | 13.6 kg |
8500LL | 915 g | 4.7:1 | 107 cm | 18.1 kg |
The 2500LL is the lightest option and is also described by the supplier for spinning. The 4500LL adds 50 g but offers more line capacity at the same diameter, a longer retrieve per turn and higher maximum drag. The 6500LL and 8500LL offer greater capacity for thicker lines and higher drag, at a substantial weight increase. Both retrieve 107 cm per turn despite their different gear ratios, so choose between them by line requirements, drag and weight rather than ratio alone. These are Live Liner versions, not the separately mentioned standard or Long Cast models.
The supplier lists identical metre/diameter capacities for monofilament and braid on each size.
Size | Capacity for mono and braid |
|---|---|
2500LL | 235 m/0.23 mm, 160 m/0.28 mm, 130 m/0.31 mm |
4500LL | 390 m/0.25 mm, 290 m/0.28 mm, 215 m/0.33 mm |
6500LL | 355 m/0.33 mm, 315 m/0.36 mm, 185 m/0.38 mm |
8500LL | 415 m/0.46 mm, 280 m/0.56 mm, 240 m/0.61 mm |
All sizes have a Black Gold finish and are supplied without line or a spare spool. Choose your line separately using the capacity figures for the required diameter.
