The 281 g SN-4000 is intended for coastal spinning for sea trout and cod. The 398 g SN-6000 covers sea spinning, jigging and light pirking and is also suitable for freshwater. The SN-8000 covers spinning, jigging and pirking for cod, while the SN-14000 is intended for offshore pirking. Compare line capacity and weight as well as intended use when matching the reel to your setup.
Both have a 4.8:1 ratio, 16 kg maximum drag and a T-shaped handle knob. The SN-14000 carries 370 m of 0.40 mm line versus 210 m on the SN-8000, and retrieves 109 cm rather than 97 cm per turn. Its weight rises from 570 to 598 g. Choose the larger reel for more line capacity and retrieve per turn, not greater maximum drag.
The SN-4000 holds 260 m at 0.25 mm, 180 m at 0.30 mm or 135 m at 0.35 mm. The SN-6000 holds 275 m at 0.30 mm, 200 m at 0.35 mm or 155 m at 0.40 mm. Compare capacities at the same diameter, the SN-6000 provides more line reserve but weighs 117 g more.
No. Maximum drag is 8 kg for the SN-4000, 15 kg for the SN-6000 and 16 kg for the SN-8000 and SN-14000. Their multi-disc systems use Japanese oiled felt washers. Set the drag to suit the rod and line, rather than automatically using the reel's maximum.
They are intended for saltwater use and have corrosion-resistant graphite bodies, but this does not remove the need for care or establish waterproof sealing. Clean them regularly, especially after saltwater fishing, check the moving parts before use and store them dry. Follow the manufacturer's maintenance instructions.

The Okuma SAFINA SN family comprises fixed-spool sea fishing reels with corrosion-resistant graphite bodies. The SN-4000 is intended for coastal lure fishing for sea trout and cod, while the larger models cover spinning, jigging and pirking for cod and other sea fish. Precision elliptical oscillation and an Even Flow line roller support line lay during the retrieve. The SN-6000 is also described as suitable for freshwater use.
The SN-4000 weighs 281 g, has a 5.0:1 gear ratio, retrieves 76 cm per handle turn and offers 8 kg maximum drag. It is the lightest option for coastal spinning. Its line capacities are 260 m of 0.25 mm, 180 m of 0.30 mm or 135 m of 0.35 mm line.
The SN-6000 is intended for sea spinning, jigging and light pirking. At 398 g, it has a 4.5:1 ratio, retrieves 79 cm per turn and offers 15 kg maximum drag. Capacities are 275 m of 0.30 mm, 200 m of 0.35 mm or 155 m of 0.40 mm line. Compared with the SN-4000, it carries more line at matching diameters and has a higher maximum drag, but adds 117 g.
The SN-8000 is intended for spinning, jigging and pirking for cod. It weighs 570 g, has a 4.8:1 ratio, retrieves 97 cm per turn and offers 16 kg maximum drag. Capacities are 210 m of 0.40 mm, 165 m of 0.45 mm or 135 m of 0.50 mm line. This gives more capacity for thicker line than the two smaller reels, at a higher weight.
The SN-14000 is intended for offshore pirking for cod and other sea fish. It weighs 598 g, shares the SN-8000's 4.8:1 ratio and 16 kg maximum drag, and retrieves 109 cm per turn. Capacities are 370 m of 0.40 mm, 290 m of 0.45 mm or 230 m of 0.50 mm line. Choose it over the SN-8000 for more line capacity and more line retrieved per turn, not for extra maximum drag. It adds 28 g.
All models have one stainless steel ball bearing and one roller bearing. The Quick-Set infinite anti-reverse system prevents backward handle rotation, helping maintain control when setting the hook. Multi-disc drag systems use Japanese oiled felt washers to control line release during a fight. Match the drag setting to the line and rod rather than treating the stated maximum as a recommended setting.
A machine-cut brass pinion transmits the handle's motion, while the computer-balanced RESII (Rotor Equalizing System) addresses rotor balance during the retrieve. Each reel also has CFR (Cyclonic Flow Rotor), a two-tone aluminium spool and a rigid graphite handle. The SN-8000 and SN-14000 have a T-shaped handle knob for a larger grip. The supplier also specifies ABS handle knobs.
The body, sideplates and rotor are graphite, with an aluminium spool. The body is corrosion-resistant, but the supplier does not state a waterproof rating or sealed construction. Clean the reel regularly, particularly after saltwater use, with a soft cloth and suitable reel oil where needed. Store it dry and follow the manufacturer's maintenance instructions.
Each variant is supplied as one reel. Before use, check the drag, handle, spool and line guide, ensure the reel is securely attached, and confirm that the rod, line and fishing method suit the reel. Do not use a damaged reel. Keep moving parts clear of fingers, hair and clothing. This is fishing equipment, not a toy, and children should use it only under adult supervision.
