The Safina SN comes in four sizes: 4000 (light-medium, 7kg drag), 6000 (medium, 12kg drag), 8000 (medium-heavy, 16kg drag), and 14000 (heavy, 16kg drag). Choose 4000 for sea trout and small cod, 6000 for jigging medium fish, 8000 for pirking and general saltwater use, and 14000 for large cod, catfish, and offshore species.
Yes. The Safina SN series features corrosion-resistant graphite bodies, stainless steel bearings, sealed drag systems, and corrosion-resistant frame components specifically designed for saltwater use. After each trip, rinse with fresh water and apply a light coat of reel oil to maintain maximum longevity.
The Safina SN sizes hold 180–250 m depending on model. All reels work with monofilament, fluorocarbon, and braided lines. For braided, you may fit slightly more yardage on the spool due to thinner line diameter. Always leave at least 5–10 mm clearance to the spool edge to prevent line slipping during hard fights.
For sea trout (up to 5 kg), the 4000 with 7 kg drag is adequate. For medium cod and jigging (5–10 kg fish), use the 6000 (12 kg drag). For larger cod, catfish, and general saltwater (10–20 kg fish), choose the 8000 (16 kg drag). For heavyweight offshore fishing (20+ kg fish), select the 14000 (16 kg drag).
The 4000 and 8000 feature a 4.8:1 ratio — balanced retrieve speed suitable for jigging and pirking. The 6000 has 4.5:1 — slightly slower, ideal for deep water and heavy lures. The 4000 offers 5.0:1 — fastest retrieve for quick baitfish imitation and sea trout spinning. Choose based on your typical depth, lure weight, and technique.
After each saltwater trip, rinse the reel thoroughly with fresh water. Once a month during the season, apply a drop of reel oil to the pinion gear and handle pivot. Check the drag system annually and replace felt washers if they become glazed or lose tension. Store in a dry location with the drag backed off to prevent spring set.

The Okuma Safina SN series delivers robust conventional reels purpose-built for saltwater jigging, pirking, and spinning. With corrosion-resistant graphite bodies, quick-set infinite anti-reverse systems, and precise computer-balanced rotor designs, these reels handle demanding offshore conditions. The multi-disc felt drag washers provide smooth, reliable braking power, while stainless steel components resist saltwater corrosion. Choose your size and gear ratio to match your target species and technique.
Every Safina SN reel features a corrosion-resistant graphite body, stainless steel bearings, and CRC (Cyclonic Flow Rotor) technology for efficient, salt-proof performance. The T-shaped handle knob (8000 and above) provides solid grip in wet conditions.
Machine-cut brass pinions, precision elliptical oscillation, and the RESII (Computer-balanced Rotor Equalizing System) ensure smooth cranking and minimal wear. Multi-disc Japanese oiled felt drag washers deliver consistent pressure across the drag range, essential for large saltwater fish.
Four sizes cover light to heavy saltwater applications. Gear ratios range from 4.5:1 to 5.0:1, with line capacity up to 250 m. Maximum drag ratings from 7 kg to 16 kg suit everything from medium-sized sea trout to big cod, catfish, and offshore species.
