HSX-20 is the lightest model at 180 g and is supported for perch and trout with plugs, spoons, softbaits and spinners. HSX-30 adds stated zander and jigging applications, 6 kg rather than 3 kg maximum drag and greater line capacity at 202 g. Choose between lower reel weight and the additional drag and capacity.
HSX-40S HS retrieves 91.2 cm per turn with a 5.8:1 ratio, compared with 76.2 cm and 5.0:1 for HSX-40. Both offer 6 kg maximum drag and the same stated line capacity. Choose HSX-40S HS for faster line pickup or HSX-40 for less line retrieved per turn. Their weights are 260 g and 262 g respectively.
HSX-40 and HSX-40S HS are explicitly supported for sea-trout fishing, with coastal use stated for HSX-40S HS. HSX-40 also has a stated light-pirking application for cod. The C-40X Cyclonic Flow Rotor and stainless-steel bearings are corrosion-resistant, not a reason to skip maintenance. Clean the reel regularly, especially after saltwater use, and store it dry.
HSX-20 holds 90 m, HSX-30 holds 200 m and both HSX-40 models hold 260 m of 0.25 mm line. Capacity depends on line diameter, so compare the rating for the diameter you plan to use rather than treating the metre figure as universal.

The Okuma HELIOS SX front-drag spinning reels are designed for lure fishing, with perch and trout applications through to pike, zander and coastal sea trout depending on the model. The lightweight C-40X carbon frame, sideplates and rotor reduce the weight carried during repeated casting and retrieving. TCA (Torsion Control Armor) reduces twisting under load.
Eight HPB bearings and one roller bearing provide a corrosion-resistant stainless-steel bearing system. The Quick-Set anti-reverse roller bearing prevents backward rotation. A precision-machined brass pinion works with ALG main and oscillating gears made from precision AlumiLite alloy. The Precision Elliptical Gearing system and LCS line control spool support line management, while RESII, the computer-balanced Rotor Equalizing System, balances the rotor during retrieval.
The rigid, machined and anodized aluminium handle has lightweight EVA knobs for comfort during repeated retrieves. The machined aluminium spool is two-tone anodized and has a metal line clip. A heavy-duty solid aluminium bail wire completes the line-handling assembly. The C-40X Cyclonic Flow Rotor and stainless-steel bearings offer corrosion resistance, but regular cleaning remains necessary, particularly after saltwater use.
HSX-20 weighs 180 g, has a 5.0:1 ratio, retrieves 60.7 cm per turn and provides up to 3 kg drag. It is supported for perch and trout fishing with plugs, spoons, softbaits and spinners. It is the lightest option, with less drag and line capacity than the larger models. Line capacity is 240 m of 0.15 mm, 140 m of 0.20 mm or 90 m of 0.25 mm line.
HSX-30 weighs 202 g, has a 5.0:1 ratio, retrieves 68.6 cm per turn and provides up to 6 kg drag. Its stated uses include jigging and lure fishing for zander, perch and trout. Compared with HSX-20, it offers more drag and line capacity at a higher weight. Line capacity is 300 m of 0.20 mm, 200 m of 0.25 mm or 130 m of 0.30 mm line.
HSX-40 weighs 262 g, has a 5.0:1 ratio, retrieves 76.2 cm per turn and provides up to 6 kg drag. Its stated uses include jigging and lure fishing for pike, zander, perch and trout, plus light pirking for cod and sea-trout fishing. Line capacity is 260 m of 0.25 mm, 180 m of 0.30 mm or 130 m of 0.35 mm line. It carries more line than HSX-30 but is heavier.
HSX-40S HS weighs 260 g, has a 5.8:1 ratio, retrieves 91.2 cm per turn and provides up to 6 kg drag. This High Speed model is supported for pike, zander, perch and trout lure fishing with softbaits, plugs and spoons, as well as coastal sea-trout fishing. It has the same stated line capacity as HSX-40, but retrieves more line per turn for faster line pickup. HSX-20, HSX-30 and HSX-40 are specified as Regular Speed models.
The listed spool codes are HSX-20-SPOOL, HSX-30-SPOOL, HSX-40-SPOOL and HSX-40S-SPOOL respectively. Use the matching model code when identifying a spool.
Check that the reel suits your rod, line and fishing method, and secure it firmly to the rod. Inspect the drag, handle, spool and line guide before use. Do not use a damaged reel or modify it. Clean regularly with a soft cloth and, where appropriate, reel oil, following the manufacturer's maintenance instructions. Store dry and remove the line for prolonged storage. Keep fingers, hair and clothing clear of moving parts, avoid excessive line tension and supervise children using the reel.
