The Balzer Edition Sea Herring Rig is a purpose-built paternoster (a multi-hook bottom rig) designed specifically for targeting herring from boat or pier. Five size 6 hooks, fish skin dressings, and matched line diameters make it an instant pick-up-and-fish solution.
The rig carries five size 6 hooks on 0.25 mm branch lines, presented off a 0.30 mm main trace. The slightly heavier main trace maintains shape and prevents tangles, while the finer branch lines allow each baited hook to move naturally — improving hook-up rates when herring are nudging rather than striking hard.
Every hook comes pre-dressed with fish skin and small beads. Fish skin adds realistic texture and scent appeal, while the beads create a subtle visual flash. This combination means the rig works even without additional bait, and can be enhanced with strips of fresh herring or sand eel when conditions demand more attraction.
