The Penn Spinfisher VII is a full-metal saltwater spinning reel built to withstand waves, spray and extended offshore sessions without compromising gear or drag performance.
Both the body and spool are sealed to the IPX5 standard, preventing saltwater from reaching the gearbox or drag system. Whether fishing from rocks in heavy surf or running through spray on the way home, internal components stay protected.
The fully sealed spool houses HT-100 carbon fibre drag washers that deliver smooth, consistent stopping power across long runs. Depending on the model, maximum drag ranges from 6.8 kg on the compact 2500 up to 22.7 kg on the heavy-duty 10500.
A CNC-machined brass main gear sits inside a full metal body and sideplate, ensuring precise alignment under heavy loads. This construction minimises flex and maintains reliable power transfer even during intense fights with large pelagic species.
All models feature six sealed stainless steel ball bearings (5+1 configuration) for a smooth retrieve and long-term corrosion resistance in salt-heavy environments.
The aluminium Superline spool is designed for direct braided line application without backing, maximising usable line capacity across the entire size range.
The Spinfisher VII standard series spans nine sizes from 2500 to 10500. Smaller models (2500–4500) suit light-to-medium inshore work targeting sea trout, bass or mackerel, with gear ratios of 6.2:1 and weights between 311 g and 361 g. Mid-range sizes (5500–6500) handle heavier coastal species at 539–632 g. The large models (7500–10500) are built for offshore targets such as tuna, GT or amberjack, weighing 751–1094 g with gear ratios of 4.2:1 to 4.7:1 and max drag up to 22.7 kg.
