The Balzer Shirasu Shallow Rig (Flachwasser System) is purpose-built for spinning with softbaits over submerged trees, weed beds, and other snag-laden shallows where a standard jig head would hang up immediately.

By omitting the jig head entirely, this rig lets your softbait ride high in the water column — drifting slowly along the surface or just below it. That buoyant presentation is exactly what triggers reaction strikes from pike lurking in reed margins and flooded timber, where a sinking lure would be lost on the first cast.

Smart Hook Mechanics That Protect Your Lure

A screw-in spiral locks into the head of the softbait for a secure, straight connection, while two spikes pin the treble hooks along the belly. The hooks remain fully articulated for a strong hook-set on the strike. During the fight, the spikes release cleanly from the bait, leaving only the trebles in the pike's mouth — so the softbait survives the session rather than getting torn apart on the first fish.
