Start with 17kg for general pike work. Use 6–14kg for finesse presentations and smaller pike (perch, small zander). Jump to 24–34kg for trophy hunting or heavy baits in weedy water. All five sizes balance sensitivity with protection.
Both methods work excellently. The soft 49-strand construction is designed for knot tying without tools. Crimps also hold perfectly. Choose the method you prefer—most anglers mix both on the same rig.
Uncoated wire delivers direct bite feedback and natural knot-tying feel. It resists debris better than coated versions and works smoothly in cold water. The matte brown finish provides camouflage without sacrificing sensitivity.
Each spool contains 5 metres of wire. From one spool you can typically make 5–10 pike leaders depending on your rig design and leader length. Most anglers prefer 30–50cm leaders, giving 10 or more from each 5m spool.
The 49-strand construction is far more forgiving than single-strand wire. It flexes naturally and resists kinking. Store spools loosely in a dry place. Even if you bend it, the soft braiding recovers quickly without permanent damage.
Choose the right strength for your target. For large pike, use 24kg or 34kg. Pair the leader with quality crimps or tight, consistent knots. Check your leader for fraying after each fish, and replace if damaged. These uncoated leaders show wear clearly—refresh regularly.

Built for predator anglers who demand both sensitivity and bite protection, Westin's uncoated 49-strand stainless steel leaders are engineered for knot strength and long-term durability. These soft, easy-to-knot wires are available in five breaking strengths to match any presentation—from ultralight finesse work to trophy pike hunting.
The uncoated surface delivers enhanced sensitivity on the bite, allowing you to detect even tentative strikes. The matte brown colour provides natural concealment in both clear and turbid water. Each leader is braided from 49 strands of high-carbon stainless steel, creating a supple wire that ties knots easily and works with crimps without specialist tools.
These leaders are engineered for predator rigs—soft enough to manipulate without kinking, yet tough enough to withstand aggressive strikes and tooth marks from pike, zander, and other large predators. The 49-strand construction balances workability with knot-holding power, making them equally suited to knotted and crimped rig construction.
Choose from 6kg, 14kg, 17kg, 24kg, or 34kg breaking strength to match your target species and presentation style. Lightweight gauges suit finesse pike and perch work, while heavy options protect against the largest pike and trophy situations.
Compare this soft, uncoated wire to coated alternatives: you get direct bite feedback, easier knot tying, and a product that handles more like traditional trace material anglers grew up with. The open construction resists debris accumulation and remains responsive in the coldest water.
