For very small baits (2–3 cm) in shallow water, start with size #4 and #2 in weights 2–3 g. For larger baits (4–5 cm) and deeper presentations, use sizes #1/0–#1 with 3–5 g weights. Match the weight to your rod power and target depth: lighter weights (2 g) excel in shallow cover; heavier (5 g) sink faster in current and deeper water.
The Gamakatsu 29 hook features a wide gap relative to its size, which is essential for secure hook sets with small soft baits. A standard hook on a micro jig would bend or fail to penetrate on a light strike. The wide gap also maximizes the exposed point, reducing the chance of missed fish due to the bait cushioning the hook.
