No. It is fast sinking, even though its balanced body stays parallel to the water’s surface. The stated swimming-depth ranges run from 1–8 m for the 5 g version to 3–20 m for the 15 g version, so choose it for subsurface presentations rather than floating surface work.
Choose 3.8 cm/5 g for a stated 1–8 m range, 4.5 cm/8 g for 1.5–12 m, 4.9 cm/10 g for 2–15 m or 5.6 cm/15 g for 3–20 m. Select a weight your tackle can cast and a range that covers your intended depth. All four sizes come in Holo Pink Glow, Holo White Glow, Holo Green and Holo Blue, allowing colour changes without changing size.
It is designed for light rock fishing and light-game saltwater spinning, with mackerel named as the primary species. The sardine-shaped body supports steady retrieves, jigging, twitching and jerking, so you can vary the presentation with the same lure instead of restricting it to vertical jigging.
One lure is supplied with SGY Saltwater UAR NP trebles 3X. The supplier describes replacing the trebles with a micro assist hook for a startled-fish jig action. Keep the supplied trebles for the standard configuration, or fit a micro assist hook if you want that alternative presentation.

The Savage Gear Jig Pencil Micro Z combines a metal jig and a pencil lure for light rock fishing (LRF) and light-game saltwater spinning. Its sardine-shaped zinc body has a triangular cross-section and a low, centred balance that keeps it naturally aligned parallel to the water’s surface. This is a fast-sinking lure, not a floating surface pencil. Mackerel is the supplier’s stated primary target species.
The compact design supports long casts to reach fish farther from shore. Low resistance makes it suitable for a steady retrieve, while jigging, twitching and jerking let you change the presentation without changing lures. Its flashing action adds a visual attraction, and the range uses UV colours. The zinc construction contains no lead, and the lure is unscented.
Four size and weight combinations are available, each with a supplier-stated swimming-depth range. Choose by the depth you want to cover as well as the lure weight your tackle can cast. Moving up the range increases both the sardine imitation’s size and its stated depth reach.
| Length | Weight | Stated swimming depth | | --- | --- | --- | | 3.8 cm | 5 g | 1–8 m | | 4.5 cm | 8 g | 1.5–12 m | | 4.9 cm | 10 g | 2–15 m | | 5.6 cm | 15 g | 3–20 m |
The 5 g version is the smallest and covers the shallowest stated range. The 8 g and 10 g versions offer intermediate size and depth options. The 15 g version reaches the deepest stated range but requires tackle suited to its higher weight. Every size comes in Holo Pink Glow, Holo White Glow, Holo Green and Holo Blue, so you can change colour without changing size or weight. The first two colours include Glow in their supplied finish names.
Each pack contains one lure fitted with SGY Saltwater UAR NP trebles 3X. For a different jig presentation, the supplier describes removing the trebles and fitting a micro assist hook to imitate a startled fish. The assist-hook conversion is an alternative setup, not the supplied hook configuration.
