Quick-Shift provides a high and a low gear in every size. The ratios are 4.5:1 / 2.1:1 on 16VS, 4.2:1 / 1.8:1 on 30VSW and 2.9:1 / 1.5:1 on 50VSW. The higher gear retrieves faster, while the lower gear helps when lifting heavy weights or fighting large fish. The 50VSW has the lowest gearing of the three.
All three listed variants have right-hand handles and are supplied without pre-spooled line or a spare spool. Choose these models only if you want to wind with your right hand, and allow for selecting and loading your own line before fishing.
Capacities are supplied for both monofilament and braid. Mono ratings pair metres with diameter in millimetres, while braid ratings pair yards with breaking strain in pounds, so compare like-for-like ratings when choosing a size. The aluminum Live Spindle spool has rings at one-third, two-thirds and full capacity to help check the line level.

The PENN Squall Lever Drag 2 Speed is a right-hand conventional sea fishing reel for large saltwater fish. The supplier also describes use for large freshwater predators. Monofilament capacity is 1275 m at 0.46 mm, 950 m at 0.54 mm or 545 m at 0.71 mm. It offers more capacity at comparable line diameters than the 16VS, without the weight of the 50VSW.
The 50VSW has the greatest line capacity and maximum drag in the family, at 18.1 kg, but weighs 1576 g. Size IGFA50 has lower 2.9:1 / 1.5:1 gearing and supplier-listed retrieval of 33 / 17 cm per turn. Monofilament capacity is 1420 m at 0.54 mm, 815 m at 0.71 mm or 515 m at 0.89 mm. Choose it for the largest line reserve and highest drag specification, accepting the extra weight and slower retrieval.
Braid capacity also increases across the three sizes. The supplier lists capacities in yards / pounds: 16VS at 1490/30, 1040/50 and 865/65, 30VSW at 1995/50, 1660/65 and 1435/80, and 50VSW at 2485/65, 2145/80 and 1835/100. These are length / breaking-strain combinations, not line-diameter ratings.
