Choose by line diameter, capacity and reel weight. Size 15 holds 340 m at 0.35 mm, size 20 holds 435 m at 0.38 mm and size 30 holds 415 m at 0.49 mm. Sizes 15 and 20 retrieve 73 cm per turn at 5.1:1, while size 30 retrieves 69 cm at 3.9:1. Larger sizes provide more reserve for thicker line but weigh more. All sizes have 7 kg maximum drag.
Models 15LWLH, 15LWLCLH, 20LWLH, 20LWLCLH, 30LWLH and 30LWLCLH have left-hand retrieve. Models 15LW, 20LW, 20LWLC, 30LW and 30LWLC have right-hand retrieve. Select the hand you want to wind with before ordering, since the supplied handle position is model-specific.
No. Every version has an aluminum spool, is not pre-spooled and includes no spare spool. You need to choose and load your own line, using the capacity figures for the selected size to plan your setup.
The level-wind guide distributes line across the spool, and Line Capacity Rings show the remaining line reserve. HT-100™ carbon fiber washers provide smooth star-drag performance under heavy loads, with 7 kg maximum drag on every version. Choose the reel size for your required line capacity rather than expecting more drag from a larger model.
Yes. The supplier specifies saltwater use, a marine-grade bronze alloy main gear and two shielded stainless steel ball bearings. The family is listed for sea fish including cod, halibut and saithe. Shielded bearings are not a stated waterproof sealing system, so do not choose it on the assumption of waterproof construction.

The PENN Rival II Level Wind is an all-round conventional reel for saltwater fishing. Its level-wind line guide distributes line across the spool, while HT-100™ carbon fiber drag washers provide smooth drag under heavy loads. The family includes sizes 15, 20 and 30 with left- or right-hand retrieve. Supplier-listed applications include fishing for cod, halibut, saithe, wolffish, ling, tusk and redfish.
Every version has a star drag rated at a maximum of 7 kg. Line Capacity Rings show the remaining line reserve during a fight, helping you judge how much line is still available. The aluminum spool is supplied without line, so choose and load your main line before fishing. No spare spool is included. Mechanical braking and a Multi-Stop anti-reverse mechanism are listed across the family.
A lightweight graphite frame and sideplates keep weight down. Aluminum frame rings increase rigidity to reduce frame flex under load. Auto-engaging gears, a marine-grade bronze alloy main gear and a machine-cut brass pinion gear form the drive, supported by two shielded stainless steel ball bearings. The bearings are shielded, not specified as waterproof. All versions are black.
Sizes 15 and 20 both have a 5.1:1 gear ratio and retrieve 73 cm per handle turn. Size 15 is the lighter option, with 340 m of 0.35 mm monofilament capacity. Size 20 offers 435 m at 0.38 mm, giving more line at that diameter but adding weight. Size 30 has a lower 3.9:1 ratio and retrieves 69 cm per turn. It holds 415 m at 0.49 mm, making it the option for more line at thicker diameters, at a higher reel weight. Maximum drag remains 7 kg in all sizes.
| Size | Monofilament capacity, m/mm | Braided line capacity, yd/lb | | --- | --- | --- | | 15 | 340/0.35, 290/0.38, 195/0.46 | 580/20, 435/30, 305/50 | | 20 | 435/0.38, 290/0.46, 265/0.49 | 865/20, 650/30, 455/50 | | 30 | 415/0.49, 340/0.54, 260/0.61 | 1020/30, 710/50, 590/65 |
Braided line capacities retain the supplier's yard/pound ratings. Compare the capacity at your chosen line diameter or rating rather than comparing the headline lengths alone.
Retrieve hand is fixed by the selected model. Choose Right if you want to wind with your right hand or Left for your left hand. The following table covers every offered version. LWLC and LWLCLH versions are heavier than their same-size LW and LWLH counterparts, while their listed capacity, ratio, retrieve and maximum drag remain unchanged.
| Model | Retrieve hand | Weight | | --- | --- | --- | | 15LW | Right | 459 g | | 15LWLH | Left | 459 g | | 15LWLCLH | Left | 479 g | | 20LW | Right | 485 g | | 20LWLH | Left | 485 g | | 20LWLC | Right | 541 g | | 20LWLCLH | Left | 541 g | | 30LW | Right | 539 g | | 30LWLH | Left | 539 g | | 30LWLC | Right | 561 g | | 30LWLCLH | Left | 561 g |
The supplier lists bottom and natural-bait fishing for 20LWLC, pirking and bottom fishing for 20LWLCLH, and bottom fishing and trolling for 15LWLH and 15LWLCLH. These are supported application examples, not restrictions on the rest of the family.
