It is designed for saltwater bottom fishing and casting live bait. The aluminium body keeps the gears aligned and the HT-100™ star drag provides up to 13.6 kg of drag, giving every size the same listed maximum drag. Choose capacity and retrieve hand to suit your sea-fishing setup.
Compare capacity at your chosen line diameter. Size 15 holds 295 m of 0.38 mm mono and weighs 561 g, while size 20 holds 430 m at that diameter. Size 30 holds 425 m of 0.49 mm and size 50 holds 395 m of 0.61 mm. Sizes 15 and 20 use 5.5:1 gearing, size 30 uses 4.3:1 and size 50 uses 3.7:1. More capacity for thicker line means a heavier reel than size 15.
The size-20 and size-30 codes containing LC have a line counter, in both right- and left-hand versions. It records line paid out so you can repeat a line length. Capacity, gearing and maximum drag remain the same as the corresponding standard size, but the counter increases weight. Choose a standard version if you do not need that readout.
Yes, sizes 20 and 30 are available with the handle on the right or left, with or without a line counter. LH identifies the left-hand model. Sizes 15 and 50 in this family are right-hand only, so select the listed retrieve hand before ordering rather than assuming the handle can be moved.
Neither line nor a spare spool is included. The aluminium spool has Line Capacity Rings, and the supplied capacity figures cover mono and braid, so choose your line before loading the reel. The Fast Gear Access Sideplate provides easy access for gear maintenance during frequent use.

The PENN FATHOMII Level Wind is a conventional sea fishing reel for bottom fishing and casting live bait. Its heavy-duty construction and powerful gears are designed for intensive daily use. The aluminium body and sideplates keep the gears precisely aligned under load, while the level-wind system guides line onto the spool during retrieval. The family includes standard and line-counter versions, with right- and left-hand retrieve options.
The star drag uses HT-100™ carbon fibre washers and provides a maximum drag of 13.6 kg on every model. The instant anti-reverse prevents backward handle movement when pressure comes onto the line. A 4+1 stainless steel bearing system supports the reel's operation.
The aluminium spool has Line Capacity Rings to help judge how much line is on it. The Fast Gear Access Sideplate gives access to the gears for maintenance, which matters with frequent use at sea. All versions are Black Gold, supplied without line and without a spare spool. Choose and load your own monofilament or braid before fishing.
Size 15 is the lightest option at 561 g. Sizes 15 and 20 have a 5.5:1 gear ratio and retrieve 64 cm per turn. Size 20 offers more line capacity with a modest weight increase. Size 30 has a 4.3:1 ratio, retrieves 68 cm per turn and holds thicker monofilament at comparable lengths. Size 50 has a 3.7:1 ratio, retrieves 64 cm per turn and gives the greatest capacity for thick monofilament, at 765 g. Select by the line diameter and amount needed for your setup rather than by size number alone.
| Size | Monofilament capacity, m/mm | Braid capacity, approximately m/lb | | --- | --- | --- | | 15 | 345/0.35, 295/0.38, 200/0.46 | 539.5/20, 406.9/30, 283.5/50 | | 20 | 430/0.38, 290/0.46, 265/0.49 | 786.4/20, 589.8/30, 411.5/50 | | 30 | 425/0.49, 345/0.54, 265/0.61 | 951/30, 663/50, 553.2/65 | | 50 | 395/0.61, 295/0.71, 260/0.76 | 818.4/65, 704.1/80, 603.5/100 |
Braid capacities above are converted from the supplier's yard figures, with the supplied breaking-strain classes retained in lb. Standard and line-counter versions of the same size have the same listed capacities, gearing, retrieve and maximum drag.
Retrieve hand describes the side of the handle. Size 15 and size 50 are offered here with right-hand retrieve. Sizes 20 and 30 offer both hands, with or without a line counter. The counter records the line paid out, helping repeat a line length when presenting a bait. It adds weight, so select it when that information is useful rather than assuming every model includes it.

The supplied sea-fishing examples for sizes 20, 30 and 50 include cod, pollack and coalfish. Halibut is also named for the standard size-20 right-hand model and the size-30 and size-50 models. The size-30 left-hand line-counter version is explicitly described for pirking. These examples do not replace choosing the required capacity and retrieve hand for your own setup.
