The first two options offer shorter, lighter rods, while the higher line classes provide more power with extra weight. The 4–8 lb Extra Light model measures 2.28 m and weighs 279 g. The 6–12 lb Light model has the same length and weighs 286 g. These are the shorter, lighter options. The 12–20 lb Medium model is 2.38 m and 332 g, while the 20–30 lb Heavy model is 2.38 m and 357 g. Higher line classes bring more power but also more weight. PENN identifies the heavier versions as suitable for large blue sharks and halibut, not the lighter versions.
Supplier lure ratings are 4–8 g for the 4–8 lb model, 6–12 g for the 6–12 lb model and 10–20 g for the 12–20 lb model. No lure rating is supplied for the 20–30 lb model. These gram ratings are distinct from the line classes in pounds.
