Choose the 301 g 4000 for active pike, zander and asp spinning. The 445 g 6000 is described for spinning and vertical catfish fishing, the 631 g 8000 for active and static catfish fishing, and the 687 g 14000 for tensioned-line and buoy rigs. The 668 g 16000 is described for marine use. Moving up adds line capacity, but compare weight and drag separately because the 14000 has 18 kg maximum drag and the 16000 has 16 kg.
At 0.40 mm, the 6000 holds 155 m, the 8000 holds 210 m, the 14000 holds 370 m and the 16000 holds 420 m. At 0.30 mm, the 4000 holds 180 m and the 6000 holds 275 m. Compare at a shared diameter to choose line reserve rather than assuming the size code alone gives the capacity.
The 14000 and 16000 each retrieve 109 cm per turn, compared with 97 cm for the 8000, 79 cm for the 6000 and 76 cm for the 4000. If line recovery is your priority, compare these figures alongside weight and capacity rather than gear ratio alone.
No. The 16000 is explicitly described for saltwater use and all models have a corrosion-resistant graphite body, but the supplied care instructions still require regular cleaning, especially after saltwater use. The 16000 supplier recommends freshwater cleaning after each session. Follow the manufacturer's maintenance instructions and store the reel dry.
No inclusion of a spare spool is stated. Each reel has a two-tone aluminium spool and a model-specific reference ending in -SPOOL. Use that reference when checking a replacement, but confirm availability and compatibility before ordering.

The Okuma Tomcat spinning reel family covers active predator fishing, catfish fishing and, with the TMC-16000, marine fishing. Precision elliptical oscillation supports even line lay, while the multi-disc drag uses Japanese oiled felt washers to control line release under load. Choose by intended method, line capacity and weight rather than size alone.
The TMC-4000 is intended for active spinning for pike, zander and asp. At 301 g, it is the lightest version in the family, with 8 kg maximum drag, a 5.0:1 ratio and 76 cm retrieve per handle turn.
The TMC-6000 is intended for spinning and vertical catfish fishing from a boat. It weighs 445 g and provides 15 kg maximum drag, a 4.5:1 ratio and 79 cm retrieve. Compared with the 4000, it adds drag capacity and line capacity at the cost of more weight.
The TMC-8000 supports active and static catfish fishing. Its 16 kg maximum drag, 4.8:1 ratio and 97 cm retrieve combine greater line capacity with faster line recovery than the 6000. It weighs 631 g.
The TMC-14000 is intended particularly for tensioned-line and buoy rigs for catfish. It has Dual Force Drag (DFD), 18 kg maximum drag, a 4.8:1 ratio and 109 cm retrieve. Its greater line capacity suits this stated use, but at 687 g it is the heaviest version.
The TMC-16000 is described for saltwater fishing from boat, pier and coast, including trolling for tuna and barracuda and fishing for halibut, giant trevally (GT), swordfish, coalfish and cod. It weighs 668 g, with 16 kg maximum drag, a 4.8:1 ratio and 109 cm retrieve. It holds more line than the 14000 and weighs less, but its stated maximum drag is lower. These specifications do not remove the need to match the rod, line and method to the fish being targeted.
Capacities are shown as line diameter in mm / length in m. The 16000 supplier identifies these as monofilament capacities.
Model | Line capacity (mm / m) |
|---|---|
TMC-4000 | 0.25 / 260, 0.30 / 180, 0.35 / 135 |
TMC-6000 | 0.30 / 275, 0.35 / 200, 0.40 / 155 |
TMC-8000 | 0.40 / 210, 0.45 / 165, 0.50 / 135 |
TMC-14000 | 0.40 / 370, 0.45 / 290, 0.50 / 230 |
TMC-16000 | 0.40 / 420, 0.45 / 335, 0.50 / 270 |
Compare capacities at the same diameter when deciding how much line reserve you need. Each model has a two-tone aluminium spool and a round metal line clip for securing the line end. Model-specific spool references are TMC-4000-SPOOL, TMC-6000-SPOOL, TMC-8000-SPOOL, TMC-14000-SPOOL and TMC-16000-SPOOL. These are reference codes, not a statement that a spare spool is included.
All five models have six ball bearings and one roller bearing, a machine-cut brass pinion and Quick-Set infinite anti-reverse to prevent backward handle rotation. Precision elliptical oscillation lays line across the spool, while the computer-balanced RES II (Rotor Equalizing System) supports balanced rotor operation during retrieval. A rigid handle and TPE (thermoplastic elastomer) Ergo grip knob provide a firm gripping surface when winding. The 4000, 6000, 8000 and 14000 are also described with CFR (Cyclonic Flow Rotor).
The body, sideplates and rotor are graphite, with a corrosion-resistant body. Corrosion resistance is not a reason to skip maintenance after saltwater use.
Check the drag, handle, spool, line guide and visible condition before each use. Secure the reel firmly to a compatible rod and do not use damaged equipment or modify the reel. Clean it regularly, especially after saltwater fishing, following the manufacturer's maintenance instructions. For the 16000, the supplier recommends a freshwater rinse after each saltwater session. Store reels dry and remove the line for prolonged storage. Keep fingers, hair and clothing clear of moving parts and keep the reel and small parts away from unsupervised children.
