Choose the CLX-40F to keep reel weight down: it weighs 291 g and has 8 kg maximum drag. The CLX-55F weighs 437 g but offers 15 kg maximum drag and holds 180 m of 0.30 mm line rather than 125 m. Choose the latter when extra drag reserve and line capacity matter more than weight.
Both are intended for freshwater feeder fishing for carp, bream and roach. The CLX-40F is also specified for tench. Rivers and stillwaters are covered, with canals also mentioned for the CLX-55F. Select the model by the required line capacity and reel weight for your feeder setup.
Yes. Both models come with a regular aluminium spare spool in addition to the machine-cut shallow aluminium main spool. You can prepare a second line on it and switch line diameter or type at the water.
No. The CLX-55F has a 4.5:1 ratio but retrieves 79 cm per handle turn, compared with 76 cm and 5.0:1 for the CLX-40F. Compare retrieve per turn rather than gear ratio alone when judging how much line each reel brings in.

The Okuma Custom Black Feeder range consists of fixed-spool reels for freshwater feeder fishing. A multi-disc drag with Japanese-oiled felt washers controls line release during the fight, while the Quick Set infinite anti-reverse system prevents backward handle movement. Both models suit feeder fishing for carp, bream and roach. The CLX-40F is also specified for tench. The range covers rivers and stillwaters, with the CLX-55F also described for canal fishing.
The CLX-40F weighs 291 g and offers 8 kg maximum drag, a 5.0:1 gear ratio and 76 cm retrieve per handle turn. Choose it when keeping reel weight down is the priority. Its line capacities are 180 m of 0.25 mm, 140 m of 0.28 mm or 125 m of 0.30 mm line.
The CLX-55F weighs 437 g and offers 15 kg maximum drag, a 4.5:1 gear ratio and 79 cm retrieve per turn. It provides more drag reserve and holds more line at the same diameter, at the cost of 146 g extra weight. Its capacities are 180 m of 0.30 mm, 150 m of 0.33 mm or 130 m of 0.35 mm line. Despite its lower gear ratio, it retrieves slightly more line per turn than the CLX-40F. Match your choice to the line diameter and capacity your feeder setup needs.
Both models have a machine-cut shallow aluminium spool and an Even Flow line roller for line guidance during retrieval. A regular aluminium spare spool is included, allowing you to keep a second line ready and change line diameter or type at the water. Each reel has seven ball bearings and one roller bearing. The computer-balanced RESII rotor system supports smooth running during repeated retrieves. Both also feature the CFR (Cyclonic Flow Rotor).
The corrosion-resistant graphite body, graphite sideplates and graphite rotor are paired with a precision elliptical gearing system and a machined brass pinion gear for consistent retrieval. A heavy-duty solid aluminium bail wire handles the line pickup, while the rigid metal handle and EVA knob provide a firm grip when winding in.
Check the drag, handle, spool and line guidance before each session, and secure the reel firmly to a compatible rod. Clean it regularly with a soft cloth, use reel oil where appropriate and follow the manufacturer's maintenance instructions. Store it dry and remove the line before prolonged storage. Do not use a damaged reel, and keep fingers, hair and clothing clear of moving parts. Children should use it only under adult supervision.
