The Azores series combines stainless steel bearings, HDGII corrosion-resistant gears, and Hydro Block drag seals to withstand salt exposure. The CRC coating adds an extra layer of protection against corrosion, ensuring these reels perform reliably in harsh marine environments.
The 5500 is ideal for light to medium saltwater work with smaller line diameters (0.35mm), suitable for medium-sized species. The 6500 offers a middle ground with more line capacity (305m) while staying relatively compact. The 9000 is the largest with maximum capacity (350m), perfect for long-distance casting and heavy line work against large species.
The DFD system uses multiple drag discs (Carbonite and felt) with fine click-adjustment to deliver smooth, predictable drag pressure. This precision helps prevent line breakage during fights and allows confident drag setting adjustments without needing to re-tighten constantly.
After saltwater use, rinse the entire reel (except the spool) with fresh water to remove salt deposits. Allow it to dry completely before storage. Avoid submerging in fresh water, as this can trap salt inside. Periodically apply a light reel oil to moving parts, and replace the main line after heavy use or seasonal changes to maintain performance.
Okuma Azores reels are available in right-hand retrieve configuration. If you prefer left-hand retrieve, check with your retailer for availability or consider contacting Okuma directly for customization options.
The 5500 has a maximum drag of 13 kg, suitable for medium saltwater species. The 6500 and 9000 both offer 20 kg maximum drag, providing substantial holding power for larger fish and heavy-duty saltwater applications.

The Okuma Azores series delivers robust performance for demanding saltwater conditions. Built with corrosion-resistant materials and a precision dual-force drag system, these reels maintain smooth operation and reliable control whether you're casting lures or fighting trophy fish.
The patented DFD (Dual-Force Drag) system provides fine-click adjustment for precise drag settings. Multi-disc drag washers with Carbonite and felt materials ensure consistent, smooth performance across the entire drag range. This precision extends reel lifespan and gives you confident, controlled takedowns.
Every component is engineered for saltwater durability. Corrosion-resistant stainless steel bearings (6HPB + 1RB), a high-density HDGII gear system, and an aluminum diecast body with protective coating create a reel that stands up to harsh marine environments. Hydro Block water-tight drag seals prevent salt intrusion and keep your drag working year-round.
A mechanical carbon stabilization system reduces flex and vibration, while precision-cut brass pinion gears deliver smooth, powerful gear engagement. Aluminum machined handle arms and spools provide both strength and lightweight balance.
Available in three sizes (5500, 6500, 9000) to match different saltwater applications. Choose based on the target species, line weight, and casting distance needed for your technique.
