HMPE (High Modulus Polyethylene) is a synthetic fiber with exceptional strength relative to its diameter. It offers significantly lower water resistance than traditional monofilament or steel wire, while maintaining incredible breaking strength. This makes it ideal for situations where minimal resistance improves bait presentation or reduces drag.
Use a small pair of pliers or a dedicated peeling tool to grip and pull away the outer coating. Peeling creates a smooth, flexible section ideal for free-moving baits and articulate rig geometry. The stripped section feels like bare HMPE and moves naturally in the water, while coated sections remain stiff to prevent tangles and keep the rig structure intact.
Choose based on your target species, bait size, and habitat. The 47 kg variant (0.60 mm) suits medium-sized baits and lighter tackle setups. The 60 kg variant (0.75 mm) is a versatile middle ground for most catfish fishing. The 75 kg variant (0.90 mm) is best for large baits, heavy structure, or trophy catfish where maximum safety margin is needed.
The HMPE core is very strong and easy to cut with sharp scissors or a knife. Peeling the coating does not reduce the core strength; stripped sections retain full breaking strength. The coating is purely for water stealth and rig management. You can peel partial sections, cut the material, and construct custom rigs without concerns about strength loss.
The Camo Skin Line works excellently for pike as well as catfish. Pike are aggressive biters and sharp-toothed predators, so a strong, low-visibility leader is essential. The peelable design is particularly useful for pike rigs where flexible sections improve bait action and movement. The higher strengths (60–75 kg) are recommended for pike fishing.
