While pilkers are traditionally saltwater lures, the Norske Pilken works effectively in deep freshwater lakes and rivers with strong currents. The stainless steel components handle freshwater well, though it's optimized for saltwater predators like cod, pollack, and sea bass.
Use a medium-heavy to heavy casting or jigging rod (6–7ft) with a quality baitcasting reel spooled with 30–60lb braided line. The 100g works with medium-heavy rods; the 500g demands a heavy-power rod to absorb strikes and control the lure in current.
