It is a running weight: the main line passes through the bore so a taking fish can pull line without feeling the lead. Typical uses are running ledger rigs, paternoster setups and stop-knot float rigs for roach, perch, bream, eel and small carp.
2–5g for finesse work and shy fish in still water, 7–15g as an all-round bottom weight for lakes and slow rivers, 20–40g when you need to cast further or hold bottom in moderate flow. The heavier the weight, the fewer pieces per pack.
Yes, they are cast from traditional lead. Please check your local fishery rules — some venues and regions restrict lead weights below certain sizes.
It depends on the weight. The light sizes (2g, 3g, 5g) come 8 per pack, 7g comes 7, 10g comes 5, 15g comes 4, 20g comes 3, and 25g, 30g and 40g come 2 per pack.
The elongated oval flies cleaner and creates less drag in the water, so it sinks more naturally and slides through weed and over snags more easily than a wider round or pear shape — useful when subtlety matters more than holding hard against current.
They are primarily intended for freshwater rigs, but they will work in light brackish or coastal bottom rigs. Rinse them in fresh water after use to slow corrosion.

The FTM Olivenblei (olive sinker) is a traditional oval-profile running weight cast from lead, designed for smooth casting and minimal water displacement on the bottom.
The slim, oval body slips through the air for accurate casts and lies low on the bottom, so it grips less in current and tangles less in weed than a flat or pear-shaped weight.
Available from 2g for finesse presentations through to 40g for distance and stronger flow. The lighter sizes ship in larger counts (up to 8 per pack) and the heavier sizes in smaller counts (2–3 per pack), so the package matches how often each weight is actually used.
Cast from traditional lead, the smooth through-bore lets the main line run freely past the weight — a clean fit for running ledger setups, paternoster rigs and float-stop arrangements in lakes, ponds and gentle rivers.
