Use fish strips, squid strips or cold-water prawns (Reker). The Raichiku primarily carries natural bait on two freely swinging single hooks, allowing it to move in the current. Unlike a classic pirk generally fished without added bait, its main role is natural-bait presentation.
It is intended for saltwater fishing for cod, halibut, saithe, redfish, wolffish, ling, tusk and squid. Fish near the bottom or in the water column for cod, slowly just above the bottom for halibut, in open water for saithe and around deep reefs or drop-offs for redfish. It is not intended for freshwater use.
Present it directly on the bottom with fish strips or prawns on the single hooks. Keep the baited lure relatively still near the seabed so the natural bait can move on the freely swinging hooks without lifting the presentation away from the bottom.
The weight changes, while the blue-silver colour and two freely swinging single hooks are shared. The 100 g version is lightest, 150 g is intermediate and 200 g is heaviest. Choose enough weight to control the bait at your depth and current, as no fixed depth ratings are supplied. Each pack contains one lure in the selected weight.
Rinse it thoroughly with fresh water after each session and let it dry completely before storage. Pay particular attention to the moving hook connections, as removing salt residue helps keep them moving freely.

The Balzer Raichiku is a blue-silver sea fishing lure that primarily carries natural bait on two freely swinging single hooks. Fish strips, squid strips or cold-water prawns can move freely in the current rather than remaining rigid on the lure. It is intended for saltwater fishing from coastal waters to offshore grounds, including clear coastal water and deeper marks.
Unlike a classic pirk generally fished without added bait, the Raichiku is designed around natural-bait presentation. Its two single hooks allow the bait to move independently, while their special shape is intended to help hold hooked fish. Bait the hooks with fish strips, squid strips or cold-water prawns known as Reker.
For cod, fish the Raichiku near the bottom or in the water column. Work it slowly just above the bottom for halibut, or in open water for saithe, including areas with current. Redfish can be targeted around deep reefs and drop-offs. For wolffish, present the baited lure directly on the bottom and keep it relatively still. The supplier also lists ling, tusk and squid for deep-water and offshore trips.
The Raichiku concept originated in Japan. Balzer and Rainer Korn adapted it for northern European conditions, including the North Sea, Baltic Sea and Atlantic coastal waters. This model is intended for saltwater use, not freshwater fishing.
All three versions share the blue-silver colour and two freely swinging single hooks. The 100 g version is the lightest, 150 g is the middle option and 200 g provides the most weight. Use the lighter option when it gives sufficient control, and more weight when depth or current makes bottom contact harder to maintain. No fixed depth or current ratings are supplied. Each pack contains one lure in the selected weight.
Rinse the lure thoroughly with fresh water after fishing, paying particular attention to the moving hook connections. Dry it completely before storage to remove salt residue and help keep the connections moving freely.
