Balzer Matzes Auftriebssystem: head-down deadbait presentation

The Balzer Matzes Auftriebssystem is a deadbait rig for stationary pike fishing close to the bottom. Insert its wooden buoyancy stick into a dead baitfish to hold it head-down near the bed, imitating a feeding prey fish. The system comes with two sharp, strong treble hooks.

Bottom-fishing setup and water conditions

Fish the rig with a side-mounted lead or a running lead. It is suited to passive pike fishing in light current and can also be used in still waters, keeping the natural bait close to the bottom.

Match the rig to your baitfish

Choose by baitfish length and the corresponding hook size. S has size #6 hooks for baitfish approximately 5–8 cm long. M has size #4 hooks for baitfish approximately 9–13 cm long. L has size #2 hooks for baitfish approximately 14–20 cm long. Moving up a system size pairs larger baitfish with larger hooks.

Included equipment

Each pack contains one pike rig in the selected size, with the wooden buoyancy stick and two treble hooks.

Frequently asked

Which size fits my baitfish?

Choose S with size #6 hooks for baitfish approximately 5–8 cm long, M with #4 hooks for approximately 9–13 cm, or L with #2 hooks for approximately 14–20 cm. Match the system to your baitfish length, as larger versions also have larger hooks.

How does the buoyancy system present the baitfish?

Insert the wooden stick into a dead baitfish. Its buoyancy holds the fish head-down close to the bottom, imitating a feeding prey fish for stationary pike fishing.

Which lead setups and waters is the rig suited to?

The rig can be fished with a side-mounted lead or a running lead. It is intended for passive pike fishing in light current and also works in still waters, so either setup can present a dead baitfish close to the bed in those conditions.

How many rigs and hooks are included?

Each pack contains one pike rig in the selected version with a wooden buoyancy stick and two sharp, strong treble hooks. The supplied hook size depends on whether you choose S, M or L.
