Choose by line capacity, weight and drag. The trout-oriented 750 weighs 181 g with 2.9 kg drag. Sizes 2000 and 2500 weigh 218 and 230 g with 3 and 3.1 kg drag. The 3000 and 4000 offer 6.4 kg drag at 235 and 264 g. The 6000 reaches 9.1 kg at 388 g and holds 190 m of 0.35 mm mono, so extra capacity comes with extra weight.
Yes, the machined aluminum spool lets you tie braid directly to it without slipping, and mono capacities are also specified. No spare spool is included. Match your line diameter to the capacity table, and do not expect a second spool for switching between prepared line types.
No. All have a 5.2:1 gear ratio, but the specified retrieves are 53 cm for 750, 64 cm for 2000, 68 cm for 2500, 64 cm for 3000, 78 cm for 4000 and 88 cm for 6000 per handle turn. Compare these figures if line pickup matters to your retrieve, rather than assuming a larger size always retrieves more.
Yes, every size has a Right/Left handle position, so you can set it up for your preferred retrieve hand. The aluminum handle has soft-touch knobs for grip and comfort, and the front drag remains accessible independently of the chosen handle side.
No, the manufacturer specifies freshwater use. Stainless steel ball bearings and an aluminum spool are listed, but no saltwater suitability or sealing is stated. Choose this family for the supported freshwater spinning use, rather than treating those materials as proof of coastal suitability.

The Abu Garcia Max X spinning reel family covers sizes 750 to 6000 for freshwater lure fishing. Its asymmetric graphite frame and rotor use technology from the Zenon™ and Revo® spinning reel ranges to keep the reel compact and light. The 750 is explicitly suited to trout fishing, while the other sizes offer different line capacities and drag limits for predator spinning.
The Hybrid V-Rotor system reduces rotor size and weight and provides low startup inertia, helping the rotor start turning easily. The Hybrid V-Spool design keeps the spool compact and light. Four stainless steel ball bearings and one roller bearing support smooth operation, while Instant Anti-Reverse prevents backward rotation. All six sizes have a 5.2:1 gear ratio, but line retrieve per handle turn varies with the size.
Rocket Line Management™ supports control of different fishing line types, and Rocket Spool Lip Design™ controls line leaving the spool during a cast. The machined aluminum spool accepts braid tied directly to it without slipping, so it can be used with braid as well as monofilament. Compare the diameter-specific capacities below rather than choosing by reel size alone.
Each reel has a front drag with oil-felt drag material and a handle that can be positioned on the right or left. The aluminum handle has co-molded soft-touch knobs for grip and comfort during repeated retrieves. The reels are Grey/Black. No spare spool is included, so a second preloaded spool is not part of the supplied setup. The supplier specifies freshwater use, not saltwater suitability.
| Model | Size | Weight | Maximum drag | Retrieve per turn | | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | | MAXXSP750 | 750 | 181 g | 2.9 kg | 53 cm | | MAXXSP2000 | 2000 | 218 g | 3 kg | 64 cm | | MAXXSP2500 | 2500 | 230 g | 3.1 kg | 68 cm | | MAXXSP3000 | 3000 | 235 g | 6.4 kg | 64 cm | | MAXXSP4000 | 4000 | 264 g | 6.4 kg | 78 cm | | MAXXSP6000 | 6000 | 388 g | 9.1 kg | 88 cm |
The 750 is the lightest option and has the shortest retrieve, with explicit trout-fishing use. The 2000 and 2500 increase line capacity and retrieve while keeping weight below 235 g. The 3000 offers a higher maximum drag than the 2500 for only 5 g more weight, but its specified retrieve is shorter. The 4000 keeps the 3000's drag limit and retrieves more line per turn, at the cost of extra weight. The 6000 has the highest drag limit and capacity for thicker line, but is also the heaviest. Choose by required line diameter and capacity, then compare weight, drag and retrieve.
Values below are line length in metres followed by line diameter in millimetres. Each monofilament entry gives three separate capacity ratings.
