Choose MAX5XLP for a right-side handle or MAX5XLP-L for a left-side handle. Both weigh 204 g and share 6.8:1 gearing, 57 cm retrieve per turn and 7 kg maximum drag, so choose by your preferred retrieving hand rather than a performance difference.
It is a freshwater baitcasting reel for allround lure fishing for pike, zander and perch. Suppliers mention softbaits, wobblers, spinners and light jigging. No lure-weight rating is supplied, so the reel data alone do not establish a suitable casting-weight range.
MagTrax™ is the magnetic brake for controlling the spool during casts. Power Disk™ is the fighting drag, rated at a maximum of 7 kg and adjusted with a star. Set casting control and fighting drag separately because they control different stages of fishing.
Neither is included. Both versions have an aluminium spool and are not pre-spooled, so line must be fitted before use. Stated capacity is 145 m of 0.29 mm monofilament or 150 m of 0.29 mm braid, with lower capacities at larger listed diameters.

The Abu Garcia MAX5 X LP is a low-profile baitcasting reel for freshwater lure fishing for pike, zander and perch. It brings technology from the Revo series into a lightweight asymmetrical design. The MagTrax™ magnetic casting brake helps control the spool during casts, while the 5+1 bearing system supports a smooth retrieve.
MagTrax™ provides casting control when working actively with lures. The Power Disk™ drag controls line release during the fight, with a stated maximum of 7 kg (15 lb). Its star adjustment lets you set the fighting drag independently of the casting brake. The drag material is Rulon, and Instant Anti-Reverse prevents the handle from turning backwards.
Both versions have a 6.8:1 gear ratio and retrieve 57 cm per handle turn. These shared specifications suit allround lure work, so changing retrieve hand does not change the gearing or line recovery. Supplier use cases include softbaits, wobblers and spinners. Light jigging is mentioned for MAX5XLP. For MAX5XLP-L, the supplier also names jigs, spinnerbaits and crankbaits, with casting from the bank or a boat. No lure-weight rating is supplied.
The graphite body and side plates keep reel weight to 204 g. The asymmetrical low-profile body is designed for comfortable handling. Duragear™ brass gearing transmits the retrieve, and the bent 90 mm aluminium handle provides leverage. Its co-moulded soft-touch knobs give a comfortable grip during repeated casts and retrieves. For MAX5XLP, the supplier also describes a non-slip grip in wet or cold conditions. The spool is aluminium.
MAX5XLP (MAX5 X LP) has the handle on the right. MAX5XLP-L (MAX5 X LP-L) has the handle on the left. Choose according to the hand you prefer to turn the handle with. Both have size LP, the same weight, gearing, drag rating and line capacities. The choice changes handling, not the listed performance specifications.
Both versions are supplied without line and without a spare spool. Plan to spool the reel before fishing. The stated metric capacities are:
Monofilament: 145 m at 0.29 mm, 115 m at 0.32 mm or 85 m at 0.38 mm.
Braid: 150 m at 0.29 mm, 115 m at 0.36 mm or 80 m at 0.41 mm.
Use the capacity for your chosen line diameter when planning the fill. These reels are specified for freshwater use.
