The Cardinal X series is designed for freshwater fishing only. Saltwater environments can corrode the zinc-alloy internals despite the protective graphite body. For saltwater, choose reels specifically designed with corrosion-resistant materials.
All Cardinal X models feature four bearings total, arranged as 3+1 (three main bearings plus one anti-reverse bearing). This configuration ensures smooth, consistent rotation and reliable drag response.
Each size accommodates different line diameters. The 1000 holds 0.18–0.23 mm; the 2000 holds 0.18–0.25 mm; the 3000 holds 0.18–0.25 mm; the 4000 holds 0.25–0.35 mm; the 5000 holds 0.30–0.40 mm. Check your target setup against the spool's capacity placard for safe, balanced performance.
The 1000 and 2000 are ideal for trout, small perch, and light lure work. The 3000 handles perch and zander effectively. The 4000 and 5000 excel for pike, large zander, and heavier lures. All five sizes share the same smooth bearing-driven action; choose based on your target fish and line weight.
The manual anti-reverse lever lets you switch the reel's drag engagement on and off. In the 'on' position, the reel locks and prevents any backward rotation, giving you maximum stopping power when fighting a fish. In the 'off' position, the drag works freely, useful for certain retrieval techniques and adjustment.
