Vertical jigging is a technique where you work a lure up and down in a fixed spot—ideal over deep drop-offs, rock formations, or structure. This rod excels for pike and perch in lakes and deep rivers, especially autumn and winter when fish move to deeper water.
The abbreviated grip puts your hand close to the reel, giving you better control and feel during the repetitive up-and-down arm movement. This proximity also reduces fatigue over long sessions.
While designed specifically for vertical jigging, the rod can work for light casting and spinning applications within its 14–28 g weight range. However, you'll get the best performance when vertical jigging over structure.
The SKS reel seat accommodates any standard spinning reel in the 2000–3000 size range. Look for a reel with a smooth drag and decent line capacity (200–250 m of 0.18–0.20 mm mono or braid).
Modern two-piece rods like the W3 have minimal performance loss at the joint. The benefit—easy transport and storage—outweighs any minor flex difference. The 97 cm transport length fits most rod cases and car trunks.
For vertical jigging, 0.18–0.25 mm monofilament or 8–12 kg braided line works well. Choose based on water clarity (clearer water → thinner line) and target fish size.

The Westin W3 Vertical Jigging-T excels at vertical jigging over deep structure. Its fast, reactive blank delivers instant bite feedback and enables quick, decisive hook setting with minimal line slack.
The blank uses Torayca High Performance carbon with 1K carbon reinforcement. At just 120 g, the rod is light enough for all-day sessions without fatigue. The short EVA grip with rubber cork insert provides a firm anchor point against your forearm, critical for the repetitive arm movement of vertical jigging. SKS reel seat and LTS guides (SeaGuide) deliver smooth casting and reliable durability.
The rod measures 185 cm with a 14–28 g casting weight, accommodating a range of jig sizes and soft plastic presentations. Medium power provides sensitivity for lighter jigs and sufficient strength for heavier baits. Transport length is 97 cm (two-piece design), making it easy to pack.
Vertical jigging works best over drop-offs, rocky bottoms, and other underwater structure where pike and perch hunt. The W3's sensitivity and short grip enable precise vertical manipulation of lures and immediate bite detection—advantages you don't get with conventional horizontal casting.
