A stinger is a trailing hook mounted behind your main lure. It hooks fish that follow or strike from behind—the most common attack angle on soft lures. The spike holder on these rigs locks into the lure body, keeping the stinger secure and aligned for natural presentation.
The spike slides cleanly through the lure and locks with a pinching action, preventing the stinger from rotating or tangling. Fixed traces often foul in long casts or aggressive retrieves. The spike design is faster to rig and swap, and it causes zero interference with lure movement.
Size 2/0 works well for lures 8–15cm (3–6 inches). The treble sits cleanly in the soft plastic body without being so large it restricts lure movement. Match the stinger size to your lure size: smaller lures (5–8cm) take size 1/0, medium lures (10–15cm) take 2/0, and large lures (18+cm) take 3/0 or 4/0.
At 23kg, these stingers handle pike up to 15–20kg confidently. For very large fish (20kg+) or extreme cover, consider stepping up to the 27kg or 32kg variants. Remember: the stinger is a trailing hook—the main line and primary hook share the load, so a 23kg stinger paired with a solid outfit is more than sufficient.
Thread the spike through the soft-lure body, usually from the side or belly. The pinching action locks automatically—no knot needed. If using a corkscrew rig, pass the spike through the centre line of the lure and twist gently. For punch rigs, insert the spike through the lure head. The spike holds fast even after dozens of casts.
The Carbon49 spike is sharp but designed not to tear quality soft plastics. Natural rubber and silicone lures tolerate the spike well. Very cheap PVC lures may split, but premium baits (Savage Gear, Berkley PowerBait, etc.) handle repeated rigging without issue. One lure can safely host 5–10 rigging cycles.

These premium stinger rigs transform soft-lure presentations by adding a trailing treble hook that catches fish attacking from behind. The unique pinching spike locks securely into your lure body, preventing tangles while preserving natural movement.
Savage Gear's Carbon49 wire combines corrosion resistance with proven strength. At 0.70mm diameter and rated to 23kg, it handles large pike and zander without excessive weight that would compromise lure action. The stainless composition resists saltwater and acidic water conditions.
These stingers excel in corkscrew rigs, punch rigs, and standard trailing-hook setups. The wide-gape T-treble design hooks fish cleanly even when presentations are aggressive or erratic. Two pieces per pack means backup options and the chance to experiment with different rigging approaches on the same session.
With tens of thousands of pike and zander landed on Carbon49 stingers, this design is proven. The spike holder is robust enough for repeated casting and retrieves, yet simple enough to remove and swap without fiddling.
