A shock leader absorbs the impact of a hard cast and protects the main line from breaking. Use one when casting heavy lures or in snag-prone waters with pike, catfish, or other aggressive fish that may bite through weaker monofilament.
8-braid offers higher abrasion resistance, better handling under load, and a smoother surface that glides through guides with less friction. It resists cuts from teeth and rough structure better than monofilament.
