No. The 4000FS comes pre-spooled with 0.29 mm camo monofilament, so you can mount the reel and thread the line without first filling the spool. The removable aluminium spool can be respooled if you want a different line.
It is intended for freshwater perch, pike and zander on rivers and lakes, including spinning and jigging with wobblers or soft plastics. The supplier pairs size 4000 with medium-power spinning rods rated around 15–40 g, so use that range and the reel's 360 g weight when matching your setup.
The freespool system is operated by a lever. Instant Anti-Reverse prevents backward rotor rotation when engaged and has its own on/off lever, so you can select whether the anti-reverse function is active rather than having it permanently engaged.

The DAM Quick Nova X 4000FS is a fixed-spool reel with a lever-operated freespool system, supplied pre-spooled with 0.29 mm camo monofilament. It saves the initial spooling step and is aimed at beginners and recreational anglers fishing for perch, pike and zander in freshwater.
The size 4000 reel is intended for medium-power spinning rods with casting weights of around 15–40 g. Supplier applications include spinning and jigging on rivers and lakes, with wobblers and soft plastics among the stated lure choices. The reel weighs 360 g, giving you a concrete figure to consider when matching it to your rod.
A 5.2:1 gear ratio provides 79 cm of line retrieve per handle turn. Two ball bearings plus one additional bearing (2+1) support an even retrieve. Maximum drag is 5.5 kg. The freespool system is operated by a lever, while Instant Anti-Reverse prevents backward rotor rotation when engaged. An on/off lever lets you switch the anti-reverse function.
The graphite body and rotor form the reel's supporting structure, with a graphite handle arm for winding. The removable aluminium spool has a line clip to secure the line. You can remove and respool it if you want to replace the supplied camo monofilament with a different line.
