Use 10g in shallow water (under 3m), light current, or calm conditions. Choose 15g when fishing deeper (3-6m), in moderate current, or windy situations. Combine both (25g) only for extreme depth or very strong flow.
Fluorocarbon has a refractive index very close to water, making it nearly invisible compared to monofilament. This matters most in clear water with low light—when water is colored or murky, the advantage diminishes. At 0.30mm diameter, it's also less visible than thicker leaders.
Cast the rig beyond your target, let it sink to bottom, then gently lift (20–30cm) and drop back. The repetitive jigging motion draws strikes. Vary the lift height, pause duration, and drop speed based on how fish respond. Keep your line slightly taut so you feel every twitch.
The rig comes with a 7.5cm soft bait profile. Smaller shads (6–8cm), thin worms (5–7cm), or finesse baits work well. Avoid baits thicker than the hook gap, as they can mask hooksets. Perch often prefer natural colors (brown, green, silver) but white and pink can trigger aggressive responses.
Drop shot works well around snags because the bait hangs above the sinker—if you get snagged, you often lose only the weight, not the whole rig. The 0.30mm fluorocarbon resists abrasion. That said, very dense wood or rocks may still break you off; use slightly heavier sinker for better feedback and faster drop through hazards.
The 0.30mm fluorocarbon leader tests around 2.5–3kg. Match your main line to your target fish and conditions—4–6lb (1.8–2.7kg) monofilament or braid works for perch; use 8–12lb (3.6–5.4kg) if pike are present. A small swivel between main line and rig helps prevent twist.

A completely assembled drop shot system ready to tie to your main line. The Balzer Ready to Fish range offers pre-rigged solutions for perch and pike fishing—no knots, no leader tying, straight to water. The 150cm fluorocarbon leader (0.30mm) carries a size #4 drop shot hook matched to the 7.5cm soft bait profile. The two included sinkers (10g and 15g) let you adjust depth and current response without swapping rigs.
150cm pre-tied fluorocarbon leader (0.30mm) with size #4 drop shot hook
7.5cm soft bait profile
10g sinker for shallow to moderate conditions
15g sinker for deeper water or stronger current
Option to use both sinkers combined (25g total) for maximum depth
This technique suspends the bait just above bottom structure where perch hunt most actively. Gentle vertical jigging triggers strikes from fish that ignore other presentations, especially in clear water and deeper zones. The sensitive 0.30mm fluorocarbon keeps the rig nearly invisible while resisting snags.
The #4 hook is sized to the 7.5cm bait for natural movement and reliable hooksets. Fluorocarbon offers invisibility and abrasion resistance against rock and timber. The two sinker weights handle different conditions—shallow presentations use 10g alone; deeper holes or current demand 15g; reaching extreme depths combines both (25g). Simply clip to your main line and fish.
