The Balzer Masterpiece PE 8400 LF is a fixed-spool reel developed for light feeder and method feeder fishing with braided main line. Its shallow aluminium long-cast spool and slowed S-stroke oscillation lay the line evenly in a cross pattern. It suits beginners and experienced feeder anglers targeting carp, bream, tench and roach in still water and lightly flowing stretches, including current edges.
The spool is optimised for PE (polyethylene) braid, although monofilament can also be used. Stated line capacity is 200 m of 0.20 mm line. The anti-twist line roller helps reduce line twist, while the refined Micro Disc front drag (S.D.S.) allows sensitive adjustment when playing fish. This matters when a carp or bream suddenly increases pressure on a fine feeder setup.
Two release clips with different hardness levels let you match line release to feeder weight and current without dismantling the reel. The softer clip suits lighter feeders or weaker flow, while the harder clip suits heavier feeders or greater current pressure. A Safety Line Clip is also provided. Ten spare release clips are included, five hard and five soft, so both hardness levels can be replaced.
The load-bearing reel foot is made from duraluminium. A lightweight, torsion-resistant carbon/nylon body keeps the total weight at 285 g. The CNC-machined aluminium power handle screws firmly into the body to reduce play and can be converted for left- or right-hand winding.
The 5.2:1 gearing runs on seven stainless steel ball bearings and one needle bearing. Total Tolerance Control (T.T.C.) minimises play in the handle, gearing and drag for controlled operation. The Quick-Stop System (Q.S.S.) stops reverse rotor movement immediately. The Anti-Swing System (A.S.S.) limits unwanted bail vibration, and the lightweight aluminium bail forms part of the Strong Bail Concept. Together with the slowed S-stroke line lay, these details support repeated feeder casting and controlled retrieval.
