It is designed for salmon fishing, particularly trolling, and the manufacturer specifies saltwater use. Its 9 kg maximum drag and line-out alarm support controlling a fish and noticing line being taken while trolling.
The handle is on the right. The 4.1:1 gearing gives a stated retrieve of 55 cm per turn, so choose this version for right-hand winding and use that retrieve figure when comparing it with other reels.
The aluminium spool holds 325 m of 0.40 mm monofilament or 270 m of 0.45 mm braid. It is not pre-spooled and no spare spool is included. Choose your line using the corresponding capacity and spool the reel before use.
The Power Disk™ drag is adjusted with a star drag and has a maximum drag of 9 kg. A separate centrifugal braking system controls spool rotation during casting. The two systems serve different tasks, fish control during the fight and spool control during the cast.
Neither feature is confirmed for this Salmon Special. The shared series text describes them on other versions, whereas this model's listed feature is a line-out alarm. Do not treat that alarm as a line counter when choosing a reel for measured line deployment.

The Abu Garcia Ambassadeur® 7000i Salmon Special is a conventional reel designed for salmon fishing, particularly trolling. Its Power Disk™ drag system provides smooth drag performance, with a maximum drag of 9 kg. The star drag lets you adjust resistance during a fight, while the line-out alarm alerts you when line is being taken. The supplier specifies saltwater use.
This 7000i reel has a right-hand retrieve, a 4.1:1 gear ratio and a stated retrieve of 55 cm per handle turn. Choose it if you wind with your right hand. The Power Handle supports cranking under load. At 569 g, its weight is worth considering when matching it to your rod. A centrifugal braking system controls spool rotation during casting.
The aluminium spool holds 325 m of 0.40 mm monofilament or 270 m of 0.45 mm braid. These are separate capacity specifications for the two line types, so use the figure that matches your chosen line. The reel is supplied without line and without a spare spool. You will need to spool it before fishing, and a spare spool is not included for changing between lines.
Duragear™ brass gearing is specified for extended gear life. The corrosion-resistant instant anti-reverse bearing provides protection against corrosion and stops backward handle movement. The reel has three bearings in total. Its red finish has silver-coloured design elements.
The supplier's broader series description also discusses Syncro models and line-counter versions. Those features are not established for this Salmon Special model and are not claimed here.
