The 17 cm (78 g) model suits rivers, narrow channels, and shallow lakes where a smaller profile is advantageous. The 23 cm (170 g) is heavier and casts farther, making it ideal for large lakes and reservoirs where bigger pike patrol deeper water. Both share the same gliding action but at different scales.
Use short, rhythmic rod taps to make the lure glide side to side. Vary the retrieve by adding pauses, which cause the bait to hang momentarily and fall slowly. This stop-and-go pattern is highly effective for triggering pike strikes, as it mimics a distressed or weakened baitfish.
The line runs directly through the lure body, creating a direct connection between rod and hook. This reduces leverage on the hook point during the fight, resulting in far fewer missed fish and lost pike. Anglers using the 3D Glide Roach report significantly higher landing rates than with split-ring alternatives.
In clear water, natural patterns like Clear Roach, Lemon Roach, and Horny Bream provide excellent camouflage alongside live forage. In murky or low-light conditions, choose high-visibility patterns such as Fire Roach, Black Orange Koi, or Albino Roach. The 3D scan detail works equally well across all colors, as pike rely on both visual cues and lateral-line detection.
This lure is designed specifically for freshwater pike. While the Carbon 49 wire resists corrosion well, the balance and density of the lure are optimized for pike in lakes and rivers. For saltwater species like sea trout, large perch, or pike in brackish water, we recommend our saltwater-specific glide baits.
A medium-heavy or heavy spinning rod (6–8 feet) with a reel capable of holding 150–200 m of 0.25–0.35 mm braid works best. The rod should have enough backbone to cast 17–23 cm lures and set the hook firmly on large pike, while remaining sensitive enough to detect subtle strike indicators from the lure's gliding action.

The 3D Glide Roach is a superb roach imitation based on a 3D scan of a real roach, delivering lifelike detail that triggers aggressive takes from pike. Available in two sizes (17cm and 23cm) across a range of natural and aggressive color patterns, this swimbait combines realistic proportions with proven gliding action.
Every scale, fin, and eye detail comes from laser scanning of an actual roach. The result is a lure that pike cannot easily distinguish from a genuine baitfish, even when scrutinized closely. This technology is the foundation of Savage Gear's reputation for high-catch-rate swimbaits.
The lure excels when worked with short taps and pulls of the rod tip. It glides side to side through the water column with a natural S-curve motion. Add pauses and the bait hangs momentarily before falling slowly, a behavior pike find irresistible. This combination of glide and drop creates multiple trigger points in a single retrieve cycle.
The line-thru system runs directly through the lure body, reducing leverage angles and drastically lowering the chance of missed hook-ups during the fight. Heavy-water anglers report significantly fewer lost fish compared to split-ring rigged swimbaits.
Each lure is fitted with Carbon 49 steel wire and SGY-1X BN treble hooks, matching the lure's quality construction. These materials resist corrosion and withstand the punishment of multiple pike impacts without bending or dulling.
Choose from natural roach patterns (Clear Roach, Lemon Roach, Horny Bream) that mimic forage fish, or select bold patterns (Fire Roach, Black Orange Koi, Albino Roach) for maximum visibility in murky water. The 17cm size suits rivers and shallow lakes, while the 23cm excels in larger waters where bigger baits attract trophy pike.
